Silent Running (1972)

Filed under: — reisneus on August 15th, 2003 12:08:45 pm

silentrunning01.jpgTonight dutch broadcaster NET 5 is showing it at midnight. This odd sci-fi production, released in the year I was born :) , reflects the early 70′s atmosphere nicely. I guess after he had been rewarded for his psychedelic light corridor in 2001, photographic effects wizard Douglas Trumbull probably thought: ‘I can do that, I can make a Sci-Fi movie.’ It wouldn’t be the last time either. After Silent Running he did Brainstorm (1983) and a Back to the Future spinoff in 1991. Regrettably, there’s too little attention for this film. Probably because it has the pace of 2001 A Space Oddyssee and has the storyline of a hardcore minimalistic road movie.
