I love this movie, and yes it's more something to think about then anything else. I love how much we don't know...it's just enough to keep us in the story, without getting lost or discouraged. I felt pity for Jeff, and Hayley, if that even was her name (we never really know), was like a symbolic force rather then a girl to me. Good film.

*****WARNING: HERE BE SPOILERS*****
Not too sure, Kell. Although at the end it could be argued that Jeff knows something about the girl's dissapearance, it could also be said that he confesses under (a rather large amount of) duress and as such anything he says should be questioned as being truthfull.

Be that as it may, my point is that to the viewer, for a large part of the film, it is unclear how guilty or not guilty Jeff is. And that makes it difficult to sympathise with one character more than the other. Which I thought was brilliant. My sympathy and loyalty went back and forth thoughout the story. Even if I made a judgment about both characters in the end.

"It is never clarified if Jeff is actually guilty of anything, or merely feels guilty for desiring something he knows is wrong."

SPOILER -- Jeff's (at least) an accessory to Donna's murder. His guilt is confirmed. He confesses to "watching" as Donna was murdered. Given his talent for rationalizing his pedaphilia, he's probably convinced himself that that's "all" he's done. He may well have helped lure her to her death, threatened her with his gun (the murder weapon?) at some point, or assisted the primary murderer in other ways (besides encouraging Aaron to commit murder in the first place.) That's at least life in prison, maybe a death penality (along with Aaron, of course).

***WARNING***POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD****

@Jose: she does not cut it off. The blood and fake testicles are what she brought along in that jar that he finds. Also, after he comes to and checks himself, he says: "I'm all here". So just mental torture, not actual scalpel-wielding, then.

This is a great independent movie. Ellen Page should get more roles as time goes on. The camera work and script were also solid too.

Question: Did she fake the operation or did she cut his "stuff" off? I don't think she did, but where did all that blood come from?

I never really understood that.
