I have to disagree. First of all, Sir Ian Fleming was a misogynist, so a female James Bond would be sacrilege to his original ideas.

Second of all, this would completely change the dynamic of everything. Male James bond flirted and had chemistry with his female boss, his female secretary, his female lovers, and his female enemies. In addition, his lover always played a central role in the books/films, softening up the callous nature of Bond, besides giving guys another reason to watch/read.

A female James bond would change all those relationships. What would you do, Turn M into a guy? Q into a girl? Have her meet a guy that is less manly than her?

Nope, no female James bond yet people.

I like the sound of that! It would probably make the Bond films even MORE money :-)

I agree that a new Bond is needed and a woman should fill the shoes but let's make her be attracted to both men and women. She's not bi but just so hot gay's and straight's want her in their bed. The movie will show her getting hot with both. She does what is needed to get the job done but we never really know which team she bats for.
Yeah, I've been thinking about this a while!

I watched Basic last night on TV, and Connie Nielsen seems like a good girl Bond as well. She looks great but also smart and isn't too young. It takes time to know everything there is to know about champagne, caviar and international megalomaniacs.

I completely forgot about Vincent Cassel. While I'm not a big lover of the "Crimson Rivers", which he co-starred with Jean Reno, you are right Paco. But Adrian Paul would still be my #1 choice for Bond.

To give a serious answer: Bond works because of the stiff and conservative premisse of the secret agent. Turning Bond is an actual human being would take the "magic" off of him.
Therefor I would chose Bond to stay a dull guy, with all his upper lipped stiffness and shortcomings. You don't tamper with icons, as they will immediately lose their purpose.

Then again, you can go buck wild with his adversaries.
Speaking of which: our own Famke Jansen would make a great Jane Bond (as she proved als Xena Onatop) if you want to opt for a female 007. And next to the good suggestion of lovely Rachel Weisz, I would like to see Kate Winslet. Or the forgotten Sean Young as a more refined and mature Bond? What about Jodie Foster? That would get my blood pumping.

But with ass kicking action stars like Uma Thurman and Angelina Jolie, who needs (a female) Bond anyway?

As far as the part for a male goes: why not give Vincent Cassel a go at it? He has the right blend of action moves and ballsy attitude to make a great Bond. Hugh Jackman would also be a good choice. And as far as classic Bond-looks go, Clooney would be the man to play the charming secret agent.
Or why not choose a coloured guy to play Bond? Don Cheadle of The Rock?
