Music Nostalgia Extravaganza
Charles Bronson has passed Away. ‘Death Wish’ was the late night movie on TV. ‘ll not go into Bronson, but the overwhelming nostalgia. Gee whizz
Especially the tunes. I never knew, Herbie Hancock wrote the original score. Aren’t those soundz of wayback a trip. I’ll just rave on about that a little.
Of course it’s not only the music, clothes, the hair, the sets, the whole package takes you down memory lane. But I’m sure music is the strongest influence. Looking at parodies of well known material from the past. There’s always a lot of attention to the music. In Austin Powers, honestly baby, the only thing really great about it is the music. A remake of Shaft depends on the Style and mainly the music. Sometimes it’s the other way around. The music is already there, but the imagery is inspired by a theme from the past. Like in the brilliant Beastie Boys video ‘Sabotage’. Although the visual parody is the star here. In our minds, we cannot help but hearing the title score of ‘Streets of San Francisco’ oozing through the Beasties track.
Watching Death Wish, I found myself not watching the movie anymore. But enjoying the 70′s surroundings and listening to those Hancock grooves. I could just turn off the TV and let the soundz play over the stereo. A nice wine, and comfortable couch to top it off. Here’s some film and TV series-music nostalgia extravaganza that I can recall instantly. So it’s not, my all-time list of favourites.
Miami Vice – Jan Hammer – Dramatic Korg synths anyone? Cruisin’ down the boulevard with my shades on … at night ?
Flashdance – Giorgio Moroder – I know it’s Moroder whining, but I have a soft spot for it. You can borrow the CD if you like
The Streets of San Francisco – John Elizalde and Pat Williams Of course these already were reruns. But those unprecedented funky grooves had me swinging in my little space boots back then already. And because this pondering is about music, click here to download a fragment of the title music.
Il Etait une fois… – Jean-Pierre Savelli – The ‘Once upon a time…’- animation series. Music for animation also can become outdated or timeless. Still can’t get the theme out of my head.
Fun to see what you can come up with instantly. And I’m not even collecting this stuff.

Great piece Reisneus! Cool to see you liked the ‘Il etait une fois…’ as well. BTW when can I borrow the Giorgio Moroder CD? Mind you he also produced the unforgettable ‘Living in Electric Dreams’. Which can only be fully appreciated in the 12″ version!
Comment by punkmachine — Fri September 19, 2003 @ 12:53It was a close call between ‘Electric Dreams’ and ‘Flashdance’
You know that CD is the Flashdance filmscore only. It’s coming your way.
