8 Mile (2002)
Can Eminem act? Well, I have no idea despite having just watched 8 Mile, as he appeared to be playing himself. Or is that the greatest compliment you can give an actor?

Peanut Butter Publicity
Film publicity stunts have long involved edible products, but this is the first time I found a mini-CDROM in the lid of my recently purchased Peanut Butter.

Harry Potter Ruined by Foreigners
Ha ha – thought that title might get your attention
but I am sort of serious about this. Before you flame me, read on….

Y tu mamá también (2001)
Over the past few months this was one film that kept coming up, from various sources, as a ‘must-see’. So it was with Great Expectations (director Alfonso Cuarón’s 1998 film) that I (Pip) chucked it in the DVD-player…

Far From Heaven (2002)
After the beautiful, tear-jerking The Hours I was really looking forward to sitting back and letting another Julianne Moore film take over my tear ducts. What a disappointment, though! Not that it was Julianne’s fault, she was pretty good (although, like all the actors in this film, a little over-done), nope, I blame the director Todd Haynes.

Requiem For A Dream (2000)
Wow. This was quite something. Quite depressing, in fact, but also quite bloody good. One of the production companies involved in this film is called Thousand Words (as in ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’, I assume) and Requiem for A Dream proves the accuracy of that saying indisputably.

Insomnia (2002)
Another well-made and exciting thriller from Christopher Nolan after his impressive Hollywood debut Memento. Pacino plays a detective (again) and Robin Williams plays the bad guy (for a change). Robin seems to be taking a liking to playing baddies nowadays (see also One Hour Photo).

What the Fargo is Going On?
So, the Guardian today has this whole article about a new movie. Apparently, the subject of the movie is a “supposedly” true story about a Japanese girl who died in Fargo looking for the briefcase full of money that was buried and lost in the “supposedly” true movie Fargo by the Coen brothers.

One Hour Photo (2002)
Robin Williams was dark and scary and bordering on psycho … and I loved it. I think Robin is a brilliant comedic actor but he has been so hopelessly typecast for the longest time. I mean I laughed at Mrs. Doubtfire like everyone else but I still felt a little embarrassed for him. And just the trailers alone for Patch Adams made me want to vomit.
But this movie was different. It is more than just a creepy tale of a suburban stalker…
